JSEF Signal Article: September 2017

Each month, Board member Billie Davis shares the latest news with readers of the Crockett Signal newspaper and our web site. Keep up on our newest accomplishments and upcoming events.

Hasta la vista summer! It’s time to reunite with those buddies from June. (Oh, how our pets are going to miss us!) But it’s September, and our chrome books, iPads and online text books are calling! The library will be the place to meet and play during break time. Coaches and teachers are excited to make each lesson plan a challenging and rewarding match for every class.

And the John Swett Education Foundation is here to support all their efforts. Our fundraising got a jump start from the Sugar Town Festival—and you can see the results on those thermometers in town. Log on to our website https://www.johnswettef.org/ to see what’s going on. In the interest of ecological rationality, all the basic school information is available online. Stay up-to-date, and log on to the school district website so you can figure out how to help your own student make the best of this upcoming school year.

But the grooviest way to become connected right now is to be a part of the action in the upcoming Adult Prom that JSEF will host on November 18th. The community center will be transformed to take you back to the Solid Gold 70’s--before PC’s, cell phones, debit cards or Game Boy!

The John Swett Education Foundation is putting the FUN in FUNK! Mark your calendar and get your bad self Down Town. (But be sure to bring your “far out” cell phones and debit cards with you!) This is an adults-only venue where you’ll be able to boogie the night away while delighting in a unique, gourmet catered dinner. Enjoy wine, beer, and classic 1970’s cocktails at our no-host full bar. You can outbid your friends and neighbors at our yummy dessert auction! Shopping never goes out of style; you can expect there to be irresistible paraphernalia for purchase at our online/silent auction. You can relive those precious moments of getting down to the hip beats from bands--like Blondie, WAR, and Wild Cherry. Of course you’ll cherish the chances of slow dancing to the classics by the Bee Gees and Marvin Gaye.

Space is limited (we sold out last year), so be sure to get your tickets now. They’re available through Brown Paper Tickets at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3069891 or at J&L market.

  • Pre-purchase online--$30
  • At the door--$35
  • Table of 10---$300
  • Plus on-site reserved sitters--$15/child)

We also have a special reduced price for Teachers, but you’ll need to contact us for the discount code (marianne.jsef@gmail.com or paul.jsef@gmail.com).

As always, our rousing JSEF meetings are held in the District Offices on the third Monday of each month (September 18) at 7:00. Please come to take part, join, or simply witness.
